چکیده

A yeast strain designated as Y-1 was isolated and characterized from wine yeast ("Jiuqu"). Based on the morphological and biochemical results, along with the rDNA internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), Y-1 was identified to be a Pichia anomala strain. Y-1 is an ethanol-tolerant strain, enduring ethanol concentrations of up to 14 %. Y-1 growth medium conditions were optimized, results showing good growth in medium with pH ranges from 3.5-6.5, temperature ranges from 25-30 °C, and inoculums range of 8 %-12 %, while optimum growth conditions were reached at a temperature of 30 °C, pH 5.0, and inoculums of 10 %. Furthermore, when the alkaline hydrolyzed Shatian pummelo peel solutions were inoculated with 10 % Y-1 and fermented at 30 °C for 6 d, 4.7 % pure ethanol (w/w) was produced, as evidenced by gas chromatography analysis. Our present study shows potential for the Y-1 strain to be a promising candidate for bioethanol production.

Pichia anomala 29X: a resistant strain for lignocellulosic biomass hydrolysate fermentation.

To efficiently use lignocellulosic biomass hydrolysates as fermentation media for bioethanol production, besides being capable of producing significant amount of ethanol, the fermenting host should also meet the following two requirements: (1) resistant to the inhibitory compounds formed during biomass pretreatment process, (2) capable of utilizing C5 sugars, such as xylose, as carbon source. I...

PCR-based identification and strain typing of Pichia anomala using the ribosomal intergenic spacer region IGS1.

Frequent outbreaks of Pichia anomala fungaemia in paediatric patients have warranted the development of a rapid identification system for this organism. This study describes a specific PCR-based method targeting the rRNA gene intergenic spacer region 1 (IGS1) for rapid identification of Pichia anomala isolates and characterization at the strain level. These methods of species identification and...

Isolation and partial characterization of a new strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae capable of high 1,3 propanediol production from glycerol

Glycerol is a promising feedstock for microbial cultivation and production of 1,3 propanediol (1,3 PDO). Here we report a newly isolated bacterial strain BA11 from soil, capable of fermenting glycerol to 1,3 PDO, and has been identified to be a strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae. Strain BA11 was fast growing showing peak 1,3 PDO production in 6 h of cultivation with productivity of 1.2 g/...

Airtight storage of moist wheat grain improves bioethanol yields

BACKGROUND Drying is currently the most frequently used conservation method for cereal grain, which in temperate climates consumes a major part of process energy. Airtight storage of moist feed grain using the biocontrol yeast Pichia anomala as biopreservation agent can substantially reduce the process energy for grain storage. In this study we tested the potential of moist stored grain for bio...
